For these kids, yoga therapy can provide crucial support. Behavior and focus, strength, flexibility, balance, and self-regulation are all improved through yoga, making it an ideal practice for children on the autism spectrum, with ADHD, sensory processing and emotional/behavioral disorders, and other exceptionalities.
iRest Yoga Nidra is a research-based transformative practice of deep relaxation and meditation. This guided meditation is generally practiced lying down or sitting comfortably in group or individual sessions. iRest is a modern adaptation of the ancient meditation practice of Yoga Nidra. In 2006 Richard Miller, PhD, of the Integrative Restoration Institute (IRI), developed the protocol and led the initial iRest research at Walter Reed Army Hospital. iRest is currently supporting active duty, veterans and families of service members in over 30 VA or Military settings across the United States. Please click here for a current list. (last updated April 2013) It is also used in hospice, homeless shelters, community programs, and many schools throughout the US. In June of 2010, Yoga Nidra was endorsed by the US Army Surgeon General and Defense Centers of Excellence as a complementary and alternative medicine (CAM).
Experience the deep, restorative rest and connection with your innate wholeness in a private iRest session. Sessions can be 30 minutes to 1 hour with some time at the beginning and end for questions and review if desired.

During workshop, we will explore how we can use the principles and practices of iRest Yoga Nidra to discover and support what we are longing for in our lives. What is life asking of us? What desire comes from our own heart? We will use sitting meditation to explore these questions, and will also engage in simple, guided, body sensing movement to awaken sensation in the body and help us connect to that continuing desire that pulls us into life. As well, you will be guided in a fully supported, lying down iRest meditation to nourish the body and to tap into the heart. Renee will then give suggestions on taking this practice into your day to day life.
You are welcome to join this class whether you have previous experience with iRest, other meditation, or simply are curious. Please bring what you need to be comfortable lying down and sitting, as well as a notebook. Chairs, bolsters and blankets will also be available at the studio for your use.
